Mostar Bridge, one of the most precious work-of-arts of the Classical Period of Ottoman Architecture in XVI Century with its functionality and aesthetic nature, was built by Mimar Hayreddin one of disciples of Architect Sinan during the period of Suleiman the Magnificent. It served for 427 years uninterruptedly as the symbol of peace, stability and tolerance in Bosnia and Herzegovina while it was demolished during the terrible War in Yugoslavia in 1993. The reconstruction of the Bridge of Mostar was carried out by a Turkish company with the cooperation between the World Bank and UNESCO under technical supervision of the General Directorate of Highways. The bridge the reconstruction works of which were completed in the year 2004 was included in World Heritage List by UNESCO in 2005.
